Studio Off-days in March

In March 2026, we have two scheduled off-days (school is closed; no lessons):

Tuesday, March 17, 2026 (St. Patrick’s Day)
Friday, March 20, 2026 (Nowruz / Persian New Year)

No regularly scheduled lessons on these two days only. (We then will have a longer off-week period in early April, from 4/1 - 4/9 2026.)

Q: What is the difference between single reed and double reed instruments?

A: Single reed instruments (e.g., clarinet, saxophone) use one cane reed vibrating against a fixed mouthpiece. In contrast, double reed instruments (e.g., oboe, bassoon) use two cane pieces tied together that vibrate against each other, requiring no mouthpiece. Some say single reeds offer a more versatile sound, while double reeds produce a richer, more complex tone.

Have a magical Friday, a musical weekend, and a safe, happy, and healthy coming week(s).

Thank you,

Dennis Frayne
