Teachers and Staff: Happy Saturday!

We Provide All Lesson Books, Sheet Music, & Materials

Remember, teachers request all lesson books (curriculum, method books, scales & technique books, theory books, etc.), sheet music, and related materials from the office on behalf of your students. Do not tell students or parents to go purchase books and materials.

Exceptions:

It is okay if a student (voluntarily) brings music from home. Feel free to use that music if they desire it. Students may also subscribe to online music marketplaces and you can help them purchase music on those sites from their own account/login/cart if that is something that makes sense for that student, such as if they desire to purchase large quantities of that kind of music.

Instrument-specific gear, supplies, cleaner, and repairs are to be provided by the student. Examples include strings for string instruments, reeds, guitar picks, drum sticks, tuners, cleaners and cloths, lubricants, etc. These things, including any outside repairs, are the responsibility of the student.

We often provide new students with certain gear, such as drum sticks, drum practice pads, guitar picks and tuners, 3-ring binders, and other things, as part of their enrollment tote bag, but they would be responsible after that.

When your student needs a method book, theory book, or sheet music, please email the office with very specific information, including title, author, and link on Amazon, SheetMusicPlus.com, or other site where it can be found.

Final note: Advanced students desiring large anthologies or complete works of composers, or special editions, will be required to purchase those on their own. However, you still should contact the office and let us make that determination and decision.

Music for Sight Reading Practice

We have music available for sight reading practice in each lesson room. It is mostly for piano, but can also be used for other instruments. If you would like specific sight reading materials in the lesson rooms for other instruments, please let us know.

These books can also be used to help assess an intermediate level student’s abilities during introductory lessons.

You may make photocopies of pages from the lesson room book libraries, but please do not remove any book from any lesson room, or take out any pages from any of the books permanently.

Sight reading practice should generally be about 2-3 levels below a student's “learning” ability level.

Q: Can we download sheet music from free resources?

A: Yes. The best resource for public domain music is IMSLP (Petrucci Music Library), imslp.org. You can find tons of classical music on this site. There are other websites that offer free downloads such as some universities and sites like pdfcoffee.com. Always strive to follow copyright guidelines, and never download music from sites that install software or spyware on the computers. Be smart and safe online!

Thank you, everyone, for all that you do!

Have a magical Saturday, a musical weekend, and a safe and healthy coming week.

Thank you,

Dennis Frayne
