Some Things Are Simply Better in Person

We live in a world where so much happens through screens. We read on them, shop on them, watch movies on them, and even attend meetings on them. Technology is a wonderful tool, and it has made many parts of life easier.

Yet some experiences are simply better when they happen in person.

There is something special about turning the pages of a favorite book, riding a bike with friends, building something with your hands, or spending an afternoon playing outside. These are experiences we don't just watch. We participate in them.

Music lessons are much the same.

Students learn by listening, singing, clapping, moving, laughing, asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. They experience the sound of a real instrument, the encouragement of a caring teacher, and the satisfaction of making music with another person. Those moments are difficult to replace with a screen.

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the opportunity to experience music as something real, shared, and alive. It is time well spent, memories well made, and a skill they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Teacher Spotlight

Mr. Denny Frayne

Mr. Denny started teaching at the Dennis Frayne Music Studios right when we opened the Laguna Niguel School of Music location in late 2023. He teaches several instruments, including piano, voice & singing, guitar, bass guitar, drums & percussion, and mandolin. Mr. Denny also teaches music theory and has helped prepare students for the MTAC CM exams.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Denny manages and maintains our office and lesson room computer, TV, sound, and printer technology. He also arranges sheet music, songs and pieces, exercises, and backing tracks. And, Mr. Denny also teaches teachers!

"The best part of my job at the Laguna Niguel School of Music is that I’m not only allowed, but encouraged, to follow the student. It’s not always easy, but it is simple, and it works. My students are capable of anything they set their minds to, and they are most successful when they are allowed to engage with activities, topics, and music which are of their own genuine interest."

Mr. Denny grew up in Orange County, graduated high school in Laguna Hills, and studied applied music, music theory, classical and jazz, at Saddleback College. He enjoys skateboarding, lazy beach days, camping trips, and hiking.

Back to School: Finding Balance

Technology is woven into nearly every part of modern life, and there is much to appreciate about it. It helps us learn, communicate, create, and stay connected with family and friends.

At the same time, children also benefit from experiences that cannot be downloaded or streamed. Running through a park, building with blocks, baking cookies with a grandparent, reading a favorite book together, or sitting beside a teacher at the piano all engage the mind, the hands, and the heart in different ways.

Music lessons offer that kind of balance. They invite students to listen carefully, move naturally, think creatively, solve problems, and build meaningful relationships. Week after week, students experience the joy of learning alongside another person, discovering not only how music works, but also what they are capable of accomplishing.

As another school year approaches, we are grateful that music lessons continue to provide a place where children can slow down, stay curious, and experience the simple joy of learning something real, one note at a time.

Music Playdates in the Park

Weekly on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings
from 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.

Meet friends, dance a little, sing along, play with some musical instruments, and other fun toys!
